INDEXER (MLA-20)
The indexer will handle most of the everyday indexing jobs in the shop.
In the primary mode it indexes 24 divisions and its factors, and in
another mode 100 divisions and its factors. The latter will prove handy
for indexing feed screw and micrometer collars. Mounted upright, the
indexer will handle chucks up to five inch diameter. The spindle can
be locked, and when setting up, made freewheeling to locate a starting
location. Spindle threads up to at least 2 1/4" diameter can be
accommodated. The kit for making the indexer includes two stress relieved
iron castings, 1144 "stressproof" steel for the indexing ring,
ball detents, drawings, and instructions. The kit maker supplies his
own material for the spindle retaining nut and is advised to have at
least temporary access to a dividing device to spot the indexing ring.
A two inch diameter by five inch long billet of "stressproof"
steel is available for making the spindle (up to 1 1/2" diameter
thread) at extra cost..
